You Are the Recovering PersonPerhaps you are the recovering person trying to communicate in a healthy way with family and friends. Our suggestions for you are quite similar to those just mentioned above. The chapter, "The Family Afterwards" in the book Alcoholics Anonymous is filled with useful guidance. It stresses that though "there are difficult wives and families," the sick person "must remember he did much to make them so." (p. 127) He or she should take the lead in being considerate and helpful. "He is not likely to get far in any direction if he fails to show unselfishness and love under his own roof." (P. 127) We invite you to our meeting to discuss any problems that arise. We also suggest you see Family Inclusion in Recovery for some specific suggestions we have developed.
