Step 11 Fact Sheets

Step 11 reads: Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

The book Alcoholics Anonymous includes specific guidelines for doing an effective 11th Step. These guidelines help the recovering person to prepare for the day ahead, to be of use to others, and to pause and pray for guidance throughout the day. The Twelve Step Recovery Workshop offers two fact sheets that outline the 11th Step guidelines in the book Alcoholics Anonymous:

  • The fact sheet 11th Step Guidelines summarizes the description of the 11th Step from pages 86 to 88 of Alcoholics Anonymous. It is a useful reference as one practices a daily 11th Step.
  • The fact sheet Questions to Think About When Working Step 11 presents the guidelines in question form. For example, "On awakening, do you think about the 24 hours ahead and consider your plans for the day?" Its question format serves as a "cheat sheet" for those who could use a refresher to enhance the effectiveness of their 11th Step.
